Evans, Kate 2006 Funny Weather
Funny Weather by Kate Evans, Myriad Editions, 2006, ISBN -10:9549309-3-2/ISBN -13: 978-0-9549309-3-6, 95 pages, £6.99 This a a stip cartoon book but extremely serious and compelling about climate change and references all of the evidence. You can grasp the whole detailed scientific evidence and the impications and actions needed in one evening. Highly recommended by George Monbiot because it presents all of the important information about climate change and what we should do about it in a highly readable but convincing way. The humour is not in the least frivolous but makes the characters believable – the young girl asking all the right questions and responding in a very realistic panic but also courageous and constructive way, the scientist with his accuracy but detachment from reality, and the fatcat skeptical and self-seeking business man – Kate Evans ends by saying that we are all complicit with him. Steve Bell says “Kate Evans is one of the most original talents in comics I’ve seen in a long time” She makes you laugh at yourself and cope better with the grim realities and she certainly ends with a convincing, positive strategy.
