Mountain glaciers changing faster than ever says eminent mountaineer
28/11/2007 Guardian President of the Alpine Club with decades of experience climbing mountain glaciers says they are changing faster than ever and affects about 1.5bn people. Stephen Venables, President of Alpine Club founded in 1857 has direct experience of the retreating glaciers. Bruno Messerli, a leading geographer from Berne suggests that perhaps as many as 1.5bn people in China and south-east Asia get their water more than 50% of their water from the Himalayan ranges and will be seriously affected by climate change.
